In looking at Or’s work, I was reminded that sleep may seem futile in our current moment. We are asked to cease work and connection with others and to shelter in a place we may or may not be safe within. What is so provocative about her work is the underlying futility of running away from whatever lies beneath. In particular, I understood her 8+8+8 as an exercise in trying to deconstruct our thoughts, memories, and experiences or separate them from our bodies. Her work is a manifestation of this separation, one that is nearly impossible because what we feel inside seems to weigh far more than what is visible and tangible.
